Juniperus chinensis ‘Blue Alps’ is a handsome, upright conifer which grows to about 4m high, giving a strong, all-year-round structure to the garden. With its dense, blue-grey foliage it can be either a tall focal point or part of an evergreen backdrop. This slow-growing Chinese Juniper can also be used in the rockery, and needs hardly any maintenance. The foliage and the small fruits are aromatic, smelling a little like gin. A few sprigs of juniper used to light the fire or barbeque, can create a rich and spicy scent.Height: 4m (12’). Spread: 3m (10’).

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes. Plant Junipers in a sunny or lightly shaded position, in any well drained soil; juniper trees tolerate dry, chalky or sandy soils. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Plant Rocky Mountain juniper at the same level as it was in its pot. Alternatively grow Junipers in large containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Water Juniper plants regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. Juniper requires very little pruning other than to maintain its shape if needed.
