With flowers appearing weeks earlier than other varieties, this mophead Hydrangea certainly earns it space in your garden. Hydrangea macrophylla 'Early Pink' boasts large summer blooms in a deep shade of pink. On acid soils, the colour will become more mauve. Fresh green foliage cloaks its compact stems in summer, turning to gold and red in autumn. With a neat, bushy habit this charming shrub makes a fabulous choice for a patio container or planting in mixed borders. Height and spread: 120cm (48").

Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
